Zalando is new in Zurich and is working on virtual fitting rooms in the Prime Tower. Dunja-Maria Bischof, Site Operations Lead, talks to us about the choice of location and its new technology – and reveals her favourite places in Zurich.
Zalando in Zurich, that sounds great. A warm welcome to you! Why did you choose Zurich as a location?
We are really excited to be here! Zurich not only offers a tech community that has been growing strongly for years, but also access to the best talent in the industry. The proximity to ETH and other universities helps us to attract the best talent in important areas such as AI, software engineering, product management etc.
Was Prime Tower your first choice? If so, why?
Prime Tower is the perfect place for us to grow and work together as a team on projects – all in an iconic building. The outstanding architecture combined with the impressive view also symbolises that the west of the city is becoming more and more attractive for companies. It is also well connected. It’s a perfect location that offers a lot to advantages.
How does the Zurich branch differ from other Zalando locations?
Besides Zurich, there are three other Zalando Tech locations outside of Berlin: Dublin, Helsinki and Dortmund. Apart from Zurich being our newest location, we are working here together with the teams in Berlin specifically on solving one of our customers’ main problems – finding the right size when buying fashion online.
What is this new function like and when can customers expect it?
We are currently testing the virtual fitting of products – customers will be able to see how a garment will fit them in a 3D version of themselves. We are also working on a body measurement feature, where customers can get recommendations based on their own measurements by taking just two photos of themselves. We plan to bring this feature to the Zalando Fashion Store later this year.
Do you already have a favourite place in Zurich?
The Limmat is definitely one of my favourite places! I like to go for a walk or swim here after work. At the moment, my colleagues and I are trying out all kinds of lunch options around the Prime Tower – Frau Gerold’s Garten and the little restaurants in the Viaduktbögen are definitely in the top 5.
